I know there are numerous tools available to play PBEM games, such as aide de camp and VASSEL, but I was wondering if anyone has ever tried playing live by instant messenger (MSN, Yahoo, etc.) or in a chatroom. I would think both players would need a copy of the game, and unit positions could be communicated using the mapboard coordinates. There would have to be a measure of trust involved, especially concerning die rolls. It would be very tedious for larger scenarios, but might work for some of the shorter (and smaller) ones? Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'v proocessed a few moves via the phone, and played out a small Squad leader Scenario by phone. Generally I dot have time for these techniques.

VASSAL can be done live as well as PBEM, its shame more dont play that way. With the save option time is not a factor. You can just meet up again later to finish.
